I’ve been advised to self-isolate for 14 days and today was the first day of this self-imposed quarantine.
I’ve been reading statuses on Facebook from a large amount of people that work in sectors that are being directly affected by the recent government advice.
You should avoid pubs, clubs, theatres and other such social venues.Boris Johnson [16 March 2020]
This however isn’t enforced by the government and is voluntary and due to this, this means that because it’s voluntary, many businesses won’t be able to claim against insurance to help them, this with effect thousands of business and even more people.
The other day I posted a profile picture with the “awareness” frame #StayTheFuckHome – but after posting I soon realised that not everyone has that privilege and it was short-sighted of me, I could have just removed the post (which I did anyway) but I also made sure to address it.
I’m that I’m very lucky that I have the ability to work from home, I know that this isn’t the case for a lot of people and not everyone will be able to work from home and people in certain lines of work are going to be really hit hard by this, I’ve seen a lot of people that work in industries that rely on peoples attendance saying that they are going to struggle and I can’t begin to imagine how stressful that must be.
I really hope that the government can help support these people in need, I know the likelihood of that happening is low considering who’s in power at the moment but I’m welcoming the ability to be surprised.
During these times I hope that the support of friends and/or family will make things marginally less shit, I’ve seen local Facebook groups starting in my area offering support for people and that’s really great to see a community spirit.
I want to send love out into the world, because it feels like everyone could benefit from a little more of that right now ❤️
I’m just about to get myself to bed but just as I was finishing this blog post, I noticed I could hear a really ominous siren noise coming from outside, I’ve added it here so you can here it – with everything that’s going on right now, hearing that is really unnerving!
If you’re also isolating during this time, or struggling with the effects of the constant media coverage and panic buying that being caused by this and want to share your feelings, please feel free to comment either on this post or wherever you saw this blog post being linked – things might feel lonely or scary for a while, feel free to reach out to others if you think you can help, or if you’re struggling with it, try and find someone you can talk to.
